Painting Setup Recommendations

It is the responsibility of the client to create a suitable space for painting. Here is a guide for setting up your painting space for success.

Painting Space

  • A flat surface to place the paints and paper on
  • Coverings for any surfaces that should not be painted
  • Area should be well-ventilated
  • Area should be above 60F
  • A suitable drying space

Clothes

Clothes should be comfortable and something you won’t mind getting paint on. The paint stains and is difficult to remove from clothing and other surfaces.

Painting Drying Instructions

For ideal drying, leave paintings in a flat position where they can be undisturbed for several days.

Note: your finished piece will continue to have an odor for a while after painting. It is recommended to store your painting in a place where people and pets do not go often.

Ideal Drying Space is:

  • Flat
  • Not too hot or cold
  • Not humid
  • Low-traffic area
  • Free from people or pets

Dry to the Touch VS Fully Cured

Spray paintings are dry to the touch relatively quickly; however, it can take several days for the painting to fully cure (i.e. completely dry without smudging).  Fully cured drying time depends on a variety of factors: the temperature of the space, the humidity, how thick your layers of paint are, and what type of paint you use.

Note: Do not frame your painting behind glass until it is fully cured. The paint can stick to the glass, and I have ruined more than one painting doing this. Though it can be tricky to determine if a painting is fully cured, I recommend erring on the side of waiting longer if you’re uncertain.
